Life - Musings, Reflections and Stories

Life - Musings, Reflections and Stories - by Joanne Beaudry-Laroque and with family, friends, organizations and important causes. This podcast is mostly regular folk on a casual podcast sharing our stories, advice, ups and downs and so on. As I age, I felt inspired by others to share some of my experiences in my life and from others and their reflections and stories. Topics range from happiness to heartache; faith and despair to hopefulness to interviewing others about their lives. Sometimes my interviews are conducted outside on our deck where you can hear birds singing or over the microphone from an office. I’m a mother (blended family-six adult children and lots of grandkids), wife, published writer, published photographer, songwriter, an actress and photo journalist. I’m not a social worker/psychologist but I do offer what has been helpful for me to ”keep on going.” I will also read some of my poetry, short stories and recite some of the songs, I wrote with my husband and one of our daughters.’ Our original songs are streaming on various streaming platforms, either under: Chanelle and under: Mike Larocque/or Larocque Country. Trigger warning in some of the podcasts: are some subjects of a sensitive nature. My family and friends who have offered to be interviewed also share their own stories about their careers, lives, things they are passionate about. If you wish to reach out to sponsor me, donate or offer suggestions, please do so at: jmbjc8@hotmail.com. If you wish to be interviewed, please send me an email: again at: jmbjc8@hotmail.com. "I Have No Hometown" - "The Fossilized Honeycomb" - "Stillness" I talk about residing in small Northern Ontario communities: Matabitchuan, Goward, Hunta, Abitibi Canyon and with some that are no longer in existence. Most were “Hydro” “towns.”   This memoir was published in 2009 - HighGrader Magazine in three separate issues.  I read a short story about “Fraserdale” by Dennis Oleskevich (2015)  and two excerpts about my parents by: Jean Ellis (“Memories” (2010) and “hydro history” by Isabel Wilson (“life in the colonies-the dam towns”(2011); I read my short story, “The Fossilized Honeycomb” (2011); and read my poem, “Stillness” (2008)

December 4, 2023:  Kevin Shea – works at the Hockey Hall of Fame, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.   Kevin is an author of twenty books about ice hockey and hockey legends.  He’s met so many amazing hockey players and then in his previous career while in the entertainment business, he has met some interesting celebrities, musicians, performers and bands and we also chatted about his radio career. For the initial first part of our podcast episode, Kevin talks about his early years, where he attended the University of Windsor, in Windsor, Ontario.  Then the next section of the podcast was about his radio career as a radio announcer, production manager and music director.  He worked in radio in Windsor, North Bay and in Ottawa, Ontario and also in Montreal, Quebec.  We talked about Bob Woods (who became a politician); Rick Nelson, Daniel Harvey and other radio announcers. We then, moved onto his next career in the Entertainment business while he worked in Promotions for RCA Records, then Warner Records and then, MCA, which is now Universal Music Group.   Kevin shared some fun stories about meeting Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston and Kenny Rogers and a bunch of amazing bands including his story to help Kurt Cobain’s band, Nirvana get their “grunge music” onto the Canadian radio stations. The balance of my podcast with Kevin is about his work with the Hockey Hall of Fame in the various duties such as:  overseeing the Education Program and Editorial; and he is also involved with the Leadership program working with Indigenous youth and also of his work as a teacher of Hockey History at Seneca College and online at Laurentian University and Canadore College. He talks about Wayne Gretzky who is the world’s greatest goal scorer as the former professional ice hockey player and former head coach; Kevin talks about other hockey legends such as: Tim Horton; Don Cherry; Bill Barilko, Rocket Richard and so on.  We could’ve talked extensively about the “whose who” in the hockey world.   Kevin also volunteers his time raising money for cancer research working closely with the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Ontario “Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer” where $30 million dollars have been raised so far. To end this podcast, we talked about Kevin’s writing career as he authored (20) twenty books about hockey and hockey legends. To contact Kevin, you can find him on Facebook as: Kevin Shea;   also he has his own website at:    kevinshea.hockey.com;      you can also email Kevin at:  Kevin_shea@rogers.com; and you can order his books online wherever you order books.  To visit the Hockey Hall of Fame, it is located at:  30 Yonge Street (Yonge & Front St.,) Toronto, Ontario where you can find revolving displays of hockey items and a collection of historical hockey artifacts.  Even Wayne Gretzky still visits there.  Reach out to Kevin for any hockey related stories or questions.  Thanks, Kevin for being my guest.
